Everyman Espresso |
Getting There. Everyman Espresso is on 13th street between Third and Fourth Avenues. I ran from Ninth Street Espresso over there in about ten minutes. If you were uptown, you could just take the subway to Union Square and get there in just as little time. This tour was getting closer and closer to home, or my homes at least. I lived at 10th and Third Avenue for a couple of years.
The Coffee House. The coffee house was actually about the largest I saw on this trip. While the others were about 600 – 800 square feet, this one seemed a bit larger. Maybe it was the simply painted white walls? I arrived and met Sam the barista and asked what they had brewed. Sam told me they didn’t have any brewed coffee, but could pull me a darned good Americano. Always one who makes lemonade out of lemons…I said sure. Sam was in the middle of replacing the gaskets out of the Synesso but quickly cleaned up the grouphead, and pulled a terrific shot and Americano.

Their Coffee. Everyman serves Counter Culture Coffee exclusively. The espresso was Counter Culture Toscano, which I think, is the same one I enjoyed for years at Tryst in Washington, DC. They also had bags of whole bean for sale, which was good for folks who want to get their Counter Culture fix without paying for shipping.

Overall. While I wasn’t nuts about the ambience and that they didn’t brew drip after some magic hour, I still like Everyman. Those things didn’t matter, since Sam, their barista was mighty nice to humor me and yak about coffee for a bit. Her Americano was also awesome. Damn, does amazing service make a place or what? Moral of this story? Good coffee and good service should never be passed up. So, if you brother and sisters at NYU’s Third Avenue North or Alumni Hall are reading this, stop smoking whatever you’re smoking, and run over to see Sam at Everyman.
