I'm making three coffee wish lists this year...each for the end of the economy any of us could end up on by December 25th. Here's the first:
List One: You Find Yourself with a Golden Parachute
With just a few million in the bank, here are a few trinkets you should consider getting for yourself or that special someone-who-has-it-all-and-loves-coffee. Trust me, they'll love these.
1. Hario Five Unit Halogen Vac Pot Bar
If you're like me you've probably gone to bed more than once with visions of the amazing Hario vac pot setup they have at Blue Bottle Coffee in San Francisco. This thing is gorgeously designed, makes fine fine coffee for ten at a time, and comes with a handy barrista who jockeys the thing masterfully for you. I can't find a distributor for this in the US and the NY Times started a rumor that it cost $20,000...my sources tell me it cost closer to $11,000. However, the ultra hip barrista is not included in that price.
2. Clover Coffee Maker, for Your House
Who needs a fancy-but-tiny five station Hario vaccuum bar that takes minutes to brew when you can get one of the last non Starbucks owned Clover 1s Machines on the planet? Buy it now on ebay for just $18,000. Note to self...just like with that 1973 Aston Martin, parts will certainly be tough to come by. Hurry, auction closes 12/12/2008!
3. Coffee Plantation, Your Very Own
You love coffee and roast at home. Why not get your own coffee farm? Located just four miles from Antigua. Guatemala, Finca Los Nietos was started in this small village in 1991. This one's available for $375,000 (a steal!) from Caribbean Property Magazine. No word on annual crop yield, but it looks like paradise.
4. New York City Cafe: Hip, Downtown, Yours!
You've always wanted to live in (or move back to, in my case) the Big Apple. AND you want to break into the coffee scene. This gift allows you to do both. You can own a cafe of your own, in an AMAZING downton location. Asking price: $695,00. Make an offer on this property at businessmart.com.
5. Coffee Roastery: Get it All
If you're going to buy all those other things on this list, you might as well tie it all together by owning the entire chain of commodity, production, distribution, and retail. This coffee roastery is ten years old, includes a custom designed Probat roaster, warehouse, and Isuzu box truck. Located in Sacramento, CA, this roastery is offered for $700,000.
